Former President Buhari’s Son Yusuf Declares for House of Reps in Katsina

Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.
He is seeking to represent Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency in Katsina State. His ambition is under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement has drawn attention across political circles. It comes as a major development within the APC in Katsina, a state long seen as a strong base of the party. Yusuf’s decision signals his entry into active politics for the first time.
Politics Nigeria reports that the move was made known in a statement shared on X by Bashir Ahmad.
According to the statement, the decision followed consultations with key stakeholders across the constituency. These included party leaders, elders, and influential figures whose backing is important ahead of the primaries.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” the statement read.
Sources within the party say the consultations were held quietly over a period of time. Meetings were reportedly organised across the three local government areas in the constituency. The aim was to test the ground and secure early support before making the move public.
The Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency has traditionally leaned towards the APC. This makes the party’s primary election more competitive than the general election in many cases.
Despite the declaration, details of his campaign plans are still unclear. There is no official rollout of his manifesto yet. His media team has also not released a clear timeline for his formal campaign activities.
For years, Yusuf Buhari maintained a low profile. He stayed away from public political debates, even during his father’s time in office.
