Governor Idris Reacts to Death of Kebbi Assembly Speaker Muhammad Zuru

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has expressed profound grief over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, describing it as a monumental loss to the state and the nation.
Zuru died on Monday, April 6, 2026, at a hospital in Cairo, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness. His passing was confirmed by the Clerk of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Suleiman Shamaki.
In a condolence message, Governor Idris said he received the news “with shock and a heavy heart,” mourning the loss of a trusted ally, committed lawmaker, and distinguished leader.
He noted that the late Speaker’s dedication, humility, and service to Kebbi State distinguished him as a true patriot, adding that he served as a pillar of legislative stability and democratic governance.
According to the governor, Zuru was a dependable partner in advancing the state’s development, and his death has created a significant vacuum in the leadership of Kebbi State.
Idris said the late Speaker would be remembered for his calm disposition, maturity in handling state affairs, and unwavering commitment to unity and progress, describing him as a man of integrity and loyalty who served with distinction.
He lamented that the loss comes at a time when Zuru’s experience and counsel were most needed, noting that his passing is a major blow to the government, legislature, political associates, and the people of the state.
The governor prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, the Kebbi State House of Assembly, the people of Zuru Emirate, and the entire state the strength to bear the loss.
Born on April 5, 1970, Zuru is survived by his wife and five children. Governor Idris added that his death marks the end of an era of purposeful leadership and legislative excellence, noting that his contributions to governance and public service will be remembered for years to come.
