PDP Demands INEC Clarify Alleged Secret Land and Cash Gifts from Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publicly address allegations that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, offered land and cash gifts to certain senior officials of the electoral body.

The call was made on Tuesday in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

The PDP described the reports circulating in the media as alarming and capable of undermining public confidence in the commission.

“Last week, media outlets reported that the Minister of the FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike, offered land and cash gifts to senior staff of INEC.

“Subsequently, another report quoted Mr. Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Supervising National Commissioner for the FCT, as admitting receipt of a land gift.

“It is concerning that these land allocations appear targeted at officials in agencies critical to elections, while other professionals whose work is essential to the nation, such as healthcare workers, teachers, and security personnel, have not received similar benefits, despite duties that require them to live in the capital city,” the statement added.

The PDP insisted that INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, must respond to the allegations.

“We call on the National Chairman of INEC to clarify these claims concerning his top officials, and even himself, as reports suggest he may also be a beneficiary.

“Such reports, at a time like this, further erode public trust in an electoral body already facing questions over its credibility.

“The Commission should urgently inform the public of the true situation. It must ensure that transparency and impartiality are not just slogans but are evident in both its actions and communications, maintaining the highest standards of integrity.”
