“Why I attended ADC’s interim leadership unveiling” – Nafiu Bala reacts to trending videos

The factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala has explained the reason behind his presence at the unveiling of the David Mark-led interim leadership of the party.
Bala said that while he was at the event, there was no prior agreement to the appointment of the Mark-led leadership during the meeting.
Recall that several video clips have continued to trend on social media following the July 2, 2025, ADC interim leadership unveiling.
In the clips, Bala was captured fully participating in the event despite his recent position on the derecognition of the Mark-led leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 7, Bala said the event was previously planned for the adoption of ADC as a unified coalition platform not for the unveiling of a new leadership.
He said, “Contrary to expectations, the event took an unexpected turn when Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, the then National Chairman, was given the floor to deliver his welcoming address.
“In a shocking move, he announced his resignation as National Chairman, proceeded to issue a membership card to Sen. David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, and declared them Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively,” Bala said.
According to the factional leader, the actions of the former national chairman of the ADC are in contravention of the party’s constitution which does not give Nwosu the power to install his successor.
“I was present at the meeting and can attest that the gathering was not intended for the unveiling of Mark and Aregbesola as party leaders.
“My attendance at the meeting and previous engagements with coalition partners from April 2024 to July 2025 do not imply endorsement of the irregular appointments,” Bala noted.
He further explained that no formal vote or consensus was met for the appointment as members of the ADC National Working Committee were left in shock after the announcement.
“None of the NWC members was privy to the situation, and neither Nwosu nor Abdullahi had discussed the matter with us prior to the meeting.
“I trust this clarification addresses the concerns raised by the circulating videos of my humble self on social media platforms. I appreciate the opportunity to provide accurate information and set the record straight,” he added.
