Former governors from Nigeria’s South-East have praised the region’s current governors for supporting the re-election bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the move as a strategic decision.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting in Enugu, the former governor of Ebonyi State and Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, said the ex-governors had established the South-East Former Governors’ Forum to collaborate with serving governors on regional and national issues.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Francis Nwaze, Umahi explained that the forum would work closely with current governors by offering guidance and support on key matters affecting the zone and the country.

He noted that the forum also commended President Tinubu for ongoing development efforts nationwide, particularly in infrastructure, as well as for appointing several individuals from the South-East into key positions.

The former governors further expressed appreciation for the support extended by the President to governors in the region.

Umahi added that the former leaders were united in backing the decision of the South-East governors to support Tinubu’s re-election, pledging their continued support.

Among those present at the meeting were former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Sullivan Chime, Martin Elechi, Chris Ngige, and Okezie Ikpeazu.
