“We say no to one-party system” – Peter Obi warns, urges Nigerians to defend democracy

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party has rejected any attempt by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to turn Nigeria into a one-party system.
Obi, in a statement on Wednesday, April 8, said all members of the coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), would not stand by and watch democracy be trampled upon in Nigeria.
The statement shared on X and personally signed by the former Anambra State governor also urged Nigerians and all lovers of democracy to join hands to resist the plan to cripple opposition activities across the country.
Obi’s statement comes on the heels of controversies rocking the ADC, including the derecognition of the David Mark-led leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Leaders within the ADC have also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Tinubu government of their involvement in the crisis rocking the coalition party.
Obi said, “We, members and leaders of the ADC, and other well-meaning Nigerians, lovers of democracy, are saying that our democracy must not be killed.
“We say NO to a one-party system and for that today we’re calling out Nigerians who believe in unity, peace, and security of our country to join us as we defend democracy in our land,” Obi said.
