EFCC raids Abuja “Yahoo school” in Abuja, arrests 31 suspects

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday during a sting operation at an alleged internet fraud academy in Becki Estate, Karu, in the Federal Capital Territory.
The commission said the suspects comprised two kingpins and several trainees, adding that they were arrested while undergoing internet fraud tutorials.
The EFCC said items recovered include phones, 18 laptop computers, and other gadgets, revealing that some of the trainees were lured from Benue state with promises of job opportunities.
It said the recruits were later provided with communication devices, computers, and software for cyber fraud training.
The EFCC said the suspects were confined within the facility and their movements were restricted and their mobile phones seized to prevent contact with the outside world.
The commission said corporal punishment was also used to enforce compliance as trainees who were considered recalcitrant were subjected to physical assault.
The EFCC said the suspects would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
