BREAKING: INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Exercise Till After 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise.

The exercise, which was earlier scheduled to take place before the next general elections, will now be held after the 2027 polls.

Politics Nigeria reports that the announcement was made on Friday in an official statement released by Mohammed Haruna, the commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee.

The decision, according to him, followed a crucial meeting between INEC and its Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) across the country.

Haruna explained that the commission reached the conclusion after reviewing its current priorities and the need to focus on preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that the revalidation exercise, which is aimed at updating and verifying voter records nationwide, would now be rescheduled to a later date.

“Following deliberations, the commission resolved to postpone the exercise until after the 2027 General Election,” the statement read.

The voter revalidation exercise is considered a key part of INEC’s efforts to maintain an accurate and credible voter register. It usually involves the confirmation of voters’ details, removal of invalid entries, and inclusion of eligible Nigerians who may have been previously unregistered or whose records require updates.
