BREAKING: Nafiu Bala Declares Aspirants Over 55 Years Disqualified From ADC [VIDEO]

The factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, has announced a significant shift in the party’s eligibility criteria for the upcoming general elections.

In a move that is set to reshape the internal politics of the party, Gombe declared that any aspirant who has surpassed the age of 55 will no longer be permitted to run for office under the ADC banner.

This new directive specifically targets the high-stakes presidential election primary, effectively barring older politicians from seeking the party’s ticket.

The factional chairman made this disclosure during a recent interview with BBC Hausa, where he laid out a vision focused on generational change.

Explaining the rationale behind the controversial decision, Gombe stated that the party is prioritizing the involvement of younger Nigerians in the democratic process.

He emphasized that the time has come to clear the path for the next generation of leaders to take the reins of governance.

“We will give youths a chance. If you are over 55 years, you are not going to contest in the ADC,” Gombe said during the broadcast.

The announcement has sent ripples through the party’s ranks, as it disqualifies several high-profile individuals who might have had ambitions for the 2027 presidency, especially those that defected of recent.

In a related development, this decision comes amid a lingering leadership tussle within the ADC. Recall that Politics Nigeria recently reported on the emergence of a separate faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, which has continued to challenge the legitimacy and the tenure of former chairman Ralph Nwosu.
