Gov Yusuf Reveals How Former Deputy Plotted to Impeach Him and Seize Power in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has accused his former deputy, Aminu Abdussalam, of secretly planning to remove him from office and take over power.

The governor made this claim on Thursday. He spoke at the Government House in Kano while hosting a group of praise singers known as Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida.

During the gathering, Yusuf said the political crisis involving his former deputy was not ordinary. He described it as a deliberate attempt to force him out.

Yusuf said he was surprised by the actions of Abdussalam. He explained that both of them came into office on the same political ticket. According to him, there was no misunderstanding or offence that could justify such a move.

“Today, the deputy governor who came with us on the same ticket is no longer with us. Nobody offended him. In fact, I have not even seen his resignation letter,” he said.

The governor added that despite the resignation, he has not personally received or seen any official letter from his former deputy. He said the situation raised questions about the real reason behind the sudden exit.

“Whatever made him act that way was an attempt to remove me and take the position, but God did not allow it,” Yusuf stated.

He also expressed disappointment over how the matter played out within the Kwankwasiyya political movement. Yusuf questioned why Abdussalam was not given the opportunity he allegedly wanted, instead of resorting to what he described as a political plot.

The governor used the moment to respond to critics who accused him of betrayal after his recent political decisions, including his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party. He insisted that his actions were taken in the interest of the people of Kano State.

Yusuf argued that the real betrayal is happening within the Kwankwasiyya camp. He claimed that individuals who were once political opponents are now being promoted ahead of loyal members.

“Now, the person who was once our biggest enemy… is the one they are now putting forward. Is that not a betrayal?” he asked.

He maintained that his administration remains stable and focused. According to him, governance in Kano has not been affected by the political tension. He added that several qualified individuals have already shown interest in the vacant deputy governor position.

Yusuf assured residents that the process to fill the position will be handled properly. He said the government will choose someone who is capable and committed to serving the people.
