Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo has dismissed claims that he plans to handpick his successor in 2027.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders of Owerri zone, Uzodimma said the “charter of equity” was designed to foster inclusion and fairness, not to serve as a tool for political manipulation.
“I will not choose a successor for Imo people. The process will be democratic, and the people will decide,” the governor said.
He cautioned against attempts to twist the meaning of the charter of equity for political gain, warning that such actions could cause unnecessary confusion.
“The charter of equity is real, but it is not about who becomes governor. It is about equity, fairness, and peaceful coexistence,” Uzodimma said.
Leaders of Owerri zone, who attended the meeting, pledged support for the governor and urged him to continue promoting inclusivity across the state.
