A former presidential aide, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has said that there is a strong division within the coalition group plotting to oust President Bola Tinubu from power.
Baba-Ahmed, who recently resigned from his position as an aide to President Tinibu said none of the political leaders championing the coalition ought to be the face of the project.
He said, “There is division within the coalition; none of these people should lead or be in a position to determine who should be in the coalition.”
Baba-Ahmed who spoke during an interview on Arise Television on Monday said the politicians trying to create an alternative to the ruling party are not better than those currently within the APC.
“The people attempting to create an alternative to the APC, I’m not sure they are better than the APC,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He also debunked claims that he is part of the coalition team planning to remove the incumbent president in the 2027 general elections.
“Let me be fair and say that I am not involved at all in any level of the coalition discussions. I am just an observer who is watching with a lot of worry that with an opportunity to create a strong opposition to the ruling party is being messed up by people who insist that they have to be the face of that opposition.
“There are divisions between them and among them and I talked to some of them and I have some idea about what is going wrong there.
“But the most important thing they are doing wrong is putting themselves forward.
“It’s a coalition of a few politicians who hope that they can arrive at an understanding and then open the door and say fellow Nigerians we have agreed on who should be what,” Baba-Ahmed said.
