A total of 62 people have been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board.
The individuals were said to have been arrested by the board over their involvement in some immoral acts.
The arrest of the suspects was confirmed by the Deputy Commandant of the Board, Mujahid Aminudeen on Monday.
Aminudeen said those arrested 27 men and 35 women were picked up during a raid at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) annex in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.
He said, the suspects who were taken into custody by the board took advantage of the rain to engage in immoral activities.
Although Aminudeen did not specifically state the specific crime committed by the individuals he added that the raid was conducted in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Sunday.
He said, “The 62 suspects took advantage of the persistent rain being experienced in the area to enjoy themselves.
“The board will not fold its arms and allow people to continue to violate the Shari’a and therefore call on the public to continue to report those who engage in any act that goes against the Shari’a in the state,” Aminudeen said.
The deputy commandant also noted that the board had carried out a similar raid on Tamburawa Bridge.
At this particular raid, Aminudeen said a personnel of the Kano Hisbah Board was apprehended alongside other individuals over similar offences.
He added that all arrested suspects would be charged to court once the investigations into the matters are concluded.
