Following the outbreak of cholera in Niger State, 27 new cases have been recorded among residents.
The fresh cases were said to have been recorded in four different Local Government Areas despite the discharge of over 327 patients in the state.
The Deputy State Disease Surveillance Officer for UNICEF, Uriah Mahmudu said the cases were reported in Chanchaga, Shiroro, Munya, and Wushishi LGAs.
Mahmadu said the international agency was delivering cholera response supplies to Niger to help in breaking the transmission chain in Minna.
According to Mahmadu, 10 patients are currently on admission at the CTC in Kuta in Shiroro while eight are in Wushishi, seven are in Chanchaga, and two are in Kabula in Munya LGAs.
He also stated that the supplies would be used to ensure that patients receive treatment and go home with hygiene packages.
He also said that communities with suspected or confirmed cases will be provided with the items needed to prevent further spread.
Residents were further urged to prioritise household toilets, hand washing, and water treatment to reduce the spread of cholera.
