2nd anniversary: PDP accuses Sanwo-Olu of abandoning rural, grassroots areas in Lagos

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, accusing it of neglecting rural communities and lacking transparency in governance.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, the PDP Vice Chairman in Lagos Central, Hakeem Olalemi, delivered a mixed assessment of Sanwo-Olu’s second term, praising ongoing infrastructural development while expressing serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and the widening development gap between urban and rural areas.

His words: “Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office is a little better than his first term, primarily because there is now a visible focus on infrastructure.

“However, the administration falls short on openness. We rate the government very low in transparency and accountability.”

He lamented the lack of publicly available information regarding government contracts and spending, saying, “Citizens have a right to know the value and details of every contract awarded. The administration needs to be far more transparent in its dealings.”

Olalemi also accused the state government of overlooking rural communities in its development agenda. He stressed that the benefits of governance must reach all parts of the state, not just the urban centres.

He said: “There must be a deliberate and urgent effort to develop rural areas.

“If you visit many of these communities, you’ll see that development has eluded them. The impact of the state government should be felt across both rural and urban areas.”

The PDP leader urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to adopt a more inclusive and transparent approach to governance, ensuring equitable development for all Lagosians ahead of the next election cycle.
