In response to a demand by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Senate President Godswill Akpabio to step down following the suspension of Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi, the spokesman for the Senate, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, has categorically stated that Akpabio has no intention of resigning from his position.
The call for Akpabio’s resignation came after the Senate suspended Senator Ningi for three months over his claims of budget padding amounting to N3.7 trillion.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Adaramodu, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, dismissed the PDP’s demand as ‘baseless’ and ‘politically motivated’.
He accused the PDP of resorting to deception and described their call for Akpabio’s resignation as unfounded.
“The PDP has elevated chicanery to statecraft and fatally failed in their sordid attempt to hoodwink the unsuspecting public on the ineffectual but spurious allegations of budget padding,” Adaramodu stated.
He further emphasized that Akpabio had not engaged in any wrongdoing that would necessitate his resignation from the Senate presidency. Adaramodu asserted that Akpabio’s commitment to his role remained unwavering.
“Akpabio will not resign and has no intention to resign at any time because he has not committed any wrongdoing to warrant resignation,” Adaramodu affirmed.
