A boat incident in in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State has left three people including a toddler dead.
Politics Nigeria gathered that the boat transporting passengers from Port Harcourt to Bonny capsized in the evening of Sunday, January 19.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 5 pm during a storm around Yellow platform near the island.
Out of the 22 passengers ferried on the boat, three drowned while 19 were successfully rescued.
Confirming the incident, the Akwa Ibom police command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, two bodies were first recovered before that of the little girl was found.
“There were 22 people on board, unfortunately, we lost three people. Two of the bodies were first recovered and the body of the girl was later recovered.
“It is very sad, but 19 passengers were rescued. They were en route to Bonny Island from Port Harcourt when the boat capsized at the Yellow Platform in Bonny. Investigation is ongoing,” Iringe-Koko said.
