3 key reasons why Court of Appeal declared Zamfara state election inconclusive

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday declared the Zamfara State Governorship Election, as inconclusive.

The court also ordered re-run in three Local Government Areas. The Local Governments are: Maradun, Birnin-Magaji and Bukyun.

Below are the three reasons why the court gave the verdict

1) Incomplete Consideration of Evidence: The Court highlighted the failure of the Election Petitions Tribunal to fully assess the evidence presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC). This incomplete scrutiny of evidence raised concerns about the fairness and accuracy of the tribunal’s decision-making process.

2) Specific Local Government Irregularities: The Court pinpointed irregularities in three specific Local Government Areas – Maradun, Birnin-Magaji, and Bukyun. The need for a re-run in these areas underscores the severity of the discrepancies found, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the initial results.

3) Dismissal of Results: Particularly noteworthy was the Court’s dismissal of the results provided by both the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Maradun Local Government. This dismissal implies significant legal inconsistencies or faults in the process of obtaining these results.
