Musa Wada, a 45-year-old Quranic teacher in Jigawa State has been arrested for killing one of his pupils, Bashir Adamu.
Wada was also said to have mutilated the body of the child to cover up for his crimes.
The police spokesperson in the state, SP Lawan Shiisu, in a statement said the pupil was killed by his teacher for repeatedly missing classes.
According to Shiisu, the Quranic teacher from Jikas-Dabaja village was arrested by the police on March 13, following a tip-off.
He said investigations have shown that the teacher punished Adamu for missing school repeatedly.
He added that the boy lost consciousness during the punishment and died in the process.
However, in the teacher’s effort to cover up for his deed, he mutilated Adamu’s body by severing his head and genital organs before disposing his body by the roadside.
Shiisu said the teacher went ahead to bury the severed body parts on his farmland.
He said the incident was reported to the Gwaram Divisional Police Headquarters on March 12, 2025, when residents found a decomposing, beheaded body abandoned along the Jikas-Dabaja village road.
It was later discovered that the body was that of Adamu, a student of Wada.
Shiisu added that the suspect has since confessed to the crime and the pupil’s remains, in police custody.
He also assured the public that the suspect would be charged in court once the investigation on the matter is concluded.
