A member of the House of Representatives in the second republic and also an elder statesman in Kano, Mohammed Junaid has spoken on why Muhammed Sanusi lineage can never become emir again in Kano State.
Mr Junaid said Mr Sanusi’s family has been tried with the throne on two different occasions but it ended in tears.
He made mention of this during an interview published by Daily Independent.
While responding to the question of the interviewer on steps that can bring Mr Sanusi’s family back to throne, the elder statesman responded saying: “There is nothing the media in Lagos or anybody can do to bring him back to be Emir.”
“I don’t believe any line of his family can be emirs again because we have tried them twice and they have been a woeful disaster. He is out of touch of realities in Kano and in the North and none of the people want to impose themselves on the North. They want to turn the north into a colony.”
Mr Junaid said if Mr Sanusi is a “great guy” as claimed by the general public, he should contest in the next general election.
“If he is a great guy as such, let them make him the president or let him stand for election, let’s see the votes he can get”.
He further said Mr Sanusi’s removal did not have any political undertone as envisaged by the public.
Mr Junaid said the former CBN governor came into power through a controversial way and was sent out in another controversial method.
“What brought politics into the appointment of the last Emir who has just been dethroned was the fact that PDP decided to get involved and it also coincided with the fact that the former Emir had made reckless statements about missing $21b and the former president, Goodluck Jonathan asked him to be arrested.”
“He went into hiding and it was while he was in hiding, the vacancy occurred through the death of Emir Ado Bayero and he became the Emir of Kano. The then governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and his deputy, Abdullahi Ganduje, who is the current governor of the state, hid him in Government House and later they announced his appointment as Emir of Kano.”
“But since he became Emir, he decided to be openly partisan and he had problems with the previous governor, Kwankwaso who issued him a query. That trend has continued with the current governor even though the two of them (Kwankwaso and Ganduje) are now in different political parties. Kwankwaso is now in PDP, while Ganduje who was then in PDP is now in APC.”
Meanwhile, POLITICS NIGERIA on Wednesday reported that Mr Kwankwso debunked ever sending query to Mr Sanusi during his tenure as governor of Kano.
