The Minister of State for Labour, Productivity, and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has sent a letter to the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Nasir Ladan, on the commencement of the Special Public Works Programme.

POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that the Federal Government has officially begun the recruitment of 774,000 Nigerians across the country’s 774 local government areas into the programme.

In a statement on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday, the government announced the take-off of the recruitment process across the country. The statement added that the State Selection Committees have been inaugurated and have commenced work.

But according to letter, Keyamo warned Ladan of severe penalties if he further breaches the directives of his ministry on the recruitment process.

The minister informed the NDE DG that the president has given a directive on the execution of the programme under the supervision of his ministry.

He asked Ladan to halt all further plans to proceed with an alternative plan to implement the programme with the committees of the national assembly.

The minister also asked the DG not to ”do anything or take any step regarding the preparation and actual execution of the special public works programme without” his express approval in writing.
