8 men in court over alleged theft of LPG worth N39.6m

Eight men were on Wednesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ebute-Metta, for allegedly stealing 360,029 litres of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) valued at N39.6 million.

The defendants are: Anthony Victor, 35, Afonja Oluwafemi, 34; Adedeji Shuaib, 44 ; Folarin Michael, 35; Moses Ayooluwa, 30; Samuel Ogunsola, 27; Oyedele Musibau, 37 and Odewole Taofeek, 39.

They are standing trial on a two-count charge of alleged conspiracy and stealing leveled against them by the police.

The Prosecutor, ASP Francis Ibinosa, told the court that the defendants and others still at large conspired and committed the alleged offences between January and July, at Igando area of Lagos.

Ibinosa said the defendants stole 360,029 litres of LPG valued at N39.6 million, belonging to Biswal Limited Lagos.

He said the offences contravened Sections 287 (5) (b) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. A. Adetunji, granted them bail in the sum of N5 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

Adetunji said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 25 for mention.
