The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has released a list of 98 lawyers who have been shortlisted for the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The list includes some of the country’s most prominent lawyers, including Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, Monday Ubani, Kunle Edun, and Dr. Rapulu Nduka.
According to a document, the shortlisted lawyers include 87 in the advocate category and 11 in the academic category.
The list also includes Wendy Kuku, legal adviser to the Independent National Electoral Commission, Terkaa Aondo, a notable human rights lawyer, and Paul Daudu, chairman of the NBA Bwari branch.
The LPPC said the general public is invited to comment on the integrity, competence, and reputation of the shortlisted lawyers. However, the committee has clarified that the publication of the names is not an indication of their success in the process.
The document states that any complaints must be accompanied by a verifying affidavit deposed to before a Superior Court of Record in Nigeria or a Notary public, and must be submitted in twenty copies.
The Supreme Court will swear in successful candidates during its new legal year ceremony, which takes place annually.
