The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election of Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as governor of Sokoto state.
The three-member panel of justices, in a unanimous judgment, dismissed the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Saidu Umar, challenging Aliyu’s victory in the March 18, 2023, election.
The court affirmed the judgment of the state governorship election petition tribunal, which earlier dismissed the petition by the appellants.
It held that the tribunal was right to have held that Aliyu and deputy, Idris Gobir were qualified to contest the election and that they did not present a forged certificate as claimed by the appellants.
Congratulations governor
