Kola Ologbondiyan, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the involvement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, branding the declarations made as unconstitutional.
Ologbondiyan took to his social media platform to voice his concerns, denouncing the truce and directives brokered by Tinubu.
He stressed that such matters should be addressed within the framework of Nigeria’s constitution, highlighting the violations he perceived in the recent declarations regarding the crisis in Rivers State.
Expressing his views on X (formerly Twitter), Ologbondiyan underscored that the directives issued by Tinubu infringe upon the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
He specifically cited the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conducting elections to fill vacant seats in the Rivers House of Assembly, emphasizing the need to adhere to constitutional provisions.
He cautioned against allowing influential political figures such as Tinubu to compromise the country’s democratic principles, warning of the potential erosion of constitutional norms.
His words: ”The Asiwaju Declarations on Rivers State are unconstitutional and a wholesome abuse of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
”The law is that INEC holds elections in the vacant seats of the Rivers House of Assembly in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
‘President Tinubu, as a major beneficiary of our constitutional democracy, must not be allowed to turn our nation into a banana republic where anything goes.”
