Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has vehemently criticized the reported plans to demolish approximately 200 houses in Abuja’s Nuwalege community.
The demolition is purportedly aimed at making room for the expansion of the Presidential Fleet.
Expressing shock and dismay, Obi denounced the proposed action as insensitive and ill-timed, especially amidst the nation’s prevalent hardship and escalating poverty.
He strongly advocated against displacing hundreds of citizens from their homes, urging a reevaluation of priorities.
Obi called for a drastic reduction in unnecessary expenditures, particularly those related to the Presidential Fleet, emphasizing the need to allocate resources to critical projects that benefit the populace.
His words:
I am again pained that we are embarking on such an inconsiderate project at this critical time when the country is going through untold hardship.
”I would like to reiterate that at this time, our preoccupation should be how to do away with the Presidential Fleet, or reduce it to the minimum, to cut costs and save up for more critical projects to help the people, instead of demolishing people’s homes.
”A country where the World Bank announced that over 100 million citizens are being pushed into poverty, should not at this time be sending hundreds of people into homelessness to accommodate the Presidential fleet of luxury aircraft.
”We need to focus instead on how to lessen the pain and suffering of poor people.
”We cannot continue to encourage those who have kept us suffering to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle far beyond our legitimate means. A democratically elected people-oriented government must always care for the people above itself.
”I, therefore, advise that we have a rethink, and most importantly , ensure that our fellow Nigerians are not rendered homeless for the sake of an unproductive presidential fleet.
”We should rather focus on helping the people and developing our critical sectors for the sake of our national peace, progress, and development. No nation grows or develops by subjecting the people to avoidable inconveniences to accommodate the luxurious excesses of its rulers.”
More pains for PO. He is being mischievous. Or does he not know the meaning of presidential fleet. Why is he being confused any time something “presidential ” is mentioned.
Adediran, you should have explained to him and others the meaning of Presidential fleet in relation to the issue in discussion
We Nigerians have not seen anything yet we all voted 4 him so let him rule us abeg, we are all goat so we need iron hand.
What is going on the this country for crying out loud
Your criticism is always out of envy. We still remember your tenure in Anambra.
Must you talk about virtually every issue? Seems to me you don’t have any other thing to do again.
Be reminded again, in case you forgot. You came a distant 3rd in the last elections, not even 2nd.
So, stop dreaming.
Fools. He is trying to let you know how they are draining the economy, but you are always ready to play the ethnic card. Everybody will suffer by the time Tinibu finished dealing with Nigerians
People without brain will remain slaves forever
At a time country like Argentina is selling off 50% of the cars in their presidential fleet & two presidential aircrafts to save $3bn Nigeria is rendering thousands of citizens homeless to sponsor the president’s extravagance. SHAME TO THIS COUNTRY
Next year 2024 I must be a Multimillionaire in Jesus name Amen
I pity some NIGERIANS. Especially the YOUTHS and younger generation who has allowed ethnic and religious sentiment blind them from the fact which is glaring. I wish we knew how these thieves ruling us today feel when they see us fighting among ourselves out religious and ethnic Difference and sentiment. What would make a sane NIGERIAN YOUTH criticise this assertion by Peter Obi if not for envy and Jealousy of the fact he is not my religion or ethnic man. We should look beyond this sentiment, NIGERIA is dying in our face and we watch in Oblivion. These old men killing this country has finished their work and responsibilities on Earth, all this misdeeds is to our detriment. We NIGERIAN YOUTHS. See what’s happening in other countries. Take Argentina as example. They are cutting cost of governance to barest minimum but back here they advice us to be patient but Continue living in opulence while the masses suffer and live in Opulence. Our mumu never do???????
Exactly my point. Those who are in support of destroying about 200 houses for the purpose of presidential fleet should understand that if they are their parents have houses in that area and those houses are brought down eventually,of course ,they would be rendered homeless and will never be happy about that.Pls,the youths of this nation should wake up and do away with sentiments and face the reality on ground
