The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Christmas despite the “harsh carols” of economic hardship and political discord echoing through the nation under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
In a Christmas Day message, the PDP said bleak families are “struggling to afford even the simplest joys” due to the “misguided melodies” of APC policies they claim have “wrecked the nation’s economy and social life.”
Party spokesperson Hon. Debo Ologunagba likened the festive season for many Nigerians to “singing off-key” due to rising fuel costs, a devalued currency, and job losses. He accused the APC of “plundering national resources like Scrooge hoarding gold” while citizens face the consequences of “a budget skewed to cater to the extravagant tastes of APC elites.”
The PDP’s statement, however, wasn’t all discordant notes. It urged Nigerians to “find harmony in unity and love,” drawing inspiration from the “sacred chords of Christmas” to “renew hope and trust in God’s intervention.”
While calling for prayers and renewed faith, the PDP also urged the National Assembly to “edit the budget’s score sheet,” cutting funding for “luxury solos” and instead “composing verses that uplift the well-being of Nigerians.”
“Despite these challenges, the PDP felicitates with Nigerians and wishes them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ahead,” the statement added.
