JUST IN: MultiChoice finally secures AFCON 2024 broadcasting rights for DStv and GOtv

In a surprise turn of events, MultiChoice Group, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has acquired the broadcasting rights for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

A reliable source within the broadcast giant confirmed to TheCable that all 52 games of the tournament, slated to begin this Saturday, will be aired on SuperSports channels.

Despite initial reports of unsuccessful negotiations for exclusive rights, the source said MultiChoice has clinched the rights under a “non-exclusive” arrangement.

The breakthrough comes weeks after an earlier disclosure by MultiChoice regarding its inability to secure broadcasting rights for AFCON.

Renowned football writer Osasu Obayiuwana also confirmed the news on X.

He wrote: “For @DStv @MultiChoice @SuperSportTV subscribers: A source from within the organisation tells me that they are going to broadcast the @CAF_Online #TotalEnergieAFCON2023 afterall.

“They are expected to make a formal announcement at some point on Wednesday. Let’s see what they say.”
