Unidentified gunmen, on Tuesday, carried out another attack in the Mangu local government area of Plateau state, resulting in the loss of many lives and the destruction of more than 15 houses, shops, a church, and a mosque.

The Sabogari Area of the local government area was the epicentre of the latest violent assault, leaving numerous casualties and a trail of destruction.

Eyewitness Pansak Lazarus, a member of the affected community, spoke to the press.

“I cannot give you the exact number of people killed, but many lives were lost. More than 15 houses were burnt, and several shops were destroyed,” Lazarus revealed.

While the police spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, appealed for calm, assuring the public that law enforcement is actively addressing the situation, Captain James Oya, media officer of Operation Save Haven (OPSH), confirmed the attack.

Oya disclosed that OPSH troops had been swiftly deployed to the affected area to restore control.

Regarding the escalating security crisis, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang took decisive action by declaring a 24-hour curfew in Mangu Local Government Area.

The announcement was made after consultations with relevant security agencies to curtail further violence and restore order.

The curfew restricts movement within the local government area, exempting only individuals on essential duties.

He appealed for cooperation in providing timely and reliable information to assist security personnel in restoring peace.

Governor Mutfwang expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims and those injured, emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the state.

The governor acknowledged the persistent challenges posed by those seeking to disrupt the state’s security but affirmed the government’s determination to protect its citizens.
