An air of fear has descended upon Akwa Ibom State as hoodlums executed a gruesome act on Wednesday night, beheading a police inspector identified as Osang.
The victim fell prey to over ten assailants who attacked him at his private residence around Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, a suburb within the Uyo metropolis.
Eyewitnesses reported heavy shooting in the area as residents and passersby sought safety during the horrifying incident.
Confirming the tragic event, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Mac-Don, expressed the command’s condolences, deeming the murder of the police personnel as “very unfortunate.”
Mac-Don assured that an investigation is underway, emphasizing the commitment of the police to eradicate criminal elements from the streets.
“We have received that information, and it is an unfortunate situation. Already, an investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements.
“Again, we are not deterred, and we are committed to ensuring that criminally minded persons will account for their actions,” stated the PPRO.
In response to the incident, Governor Umo Eno issued a stern warning to criminals during a gala night for service commanders and newly promoted Military Generals from the state.
Governor Eno asserted that criminals should not test his administration’s resolve on security matters.
“If criminals believe that Akwa Ibom State is a place for them to hibernate, I am warning them to stay away. We have credible intelligence that there are those among us…we will come after you, and we will use every layer of our intelligence available to track you,” declared Governor Eno.
