Obi, Kwankwaso Set to Join NDC After Secret Talks Over 2027 Presidential Ticket

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed that high-level negotiations are currently underway with Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State, regarding a potential move to the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

These secret talks suggest a major political realignment is brewing as opposition figures seek a unified platform to challenge the status quo in the next election cycle.

The NDC leadership expressed a strong interest in hosting both politicians, hinting that the party is prepared to offer its presidential ticket to the duo to solidify a formidable front.

According to Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, the NDC Deputy Publicity Secretary, these discussions have been facilitated by the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.

Abdulsalam noted that the interface between the party leadership and these opposition stalwarts has been consistent over a significant period. He pointed out that the current legal uncertainties and the shifting political landscape have made the possibility of such an alliance more credible.

While he stopped short of a definitive confirmation of their defection, he emphasized that the groundwork for their arrival has been laid, and the public should expect significant developments soon.

The NDC spokesperson further revealed that the party had previously received the names of Obi and Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) about a month ago.

Abdulsalam reiterated that the NDC is wide open to welcoming them, stating that unless providence dictates otherwise, the party is fully prepared to hand over its machinery to support their joint or individual aspirations for the presidency.
