Some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have raised an alarm over alleged plots to disrupt the governorship primary election in Edo State.
The concerns centre around an alleged plot to use thugs to cause chaos during the scheduled PDP primaries set to take place on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Ogbe Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.
The members also accused the deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu, of masterminding the plot.
According to them, a specialized team of armed police officers conducted a rapid operation, leading to the apprehension of an individual named Mr Momoh.
He is said to be facing charges related to advanced fee fraud and is accused of recruiting individuals to create disturbances during the PDP primaries.
The party members further accused Deputy Governor Shaibu of demanding the immediate release of Mr. Momoh.
”An enraged Deputy Governor Shaibu left the police station premises in a visibly agitated state.
”However, a few hours later, he appeared at the courthouse, where Mr. Momoh was formally presented before a judge.
”During the court proceedings, Mr. Momoh entered his initial pleas, and the judge subsequently ordered his remand in prison until the following week,” the party members claimed in a document circulated to journalists.
