The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, has issued orders for the deployment of ample police operational and intelligence resources to ensure security and maintain peace during the scheduled protests by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliate organizations in the state.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday in Enugu, Commissioner Uzuegbu emphasized the need for a peaceful conduct of the protests. While acknowledging the right of the organizers to express their grievances through protests, he cautioned against any actions that could disrupt public peace.
The commissioner warned the leadership of the NLC in the state to conduct the protests responsibly, ensuring that their members do not engage in activities that could lead to chaos or disturbances.
He stated, “I warn miscreants to steer clear of the protests, as police will not hesitate to deal decisively with individuals found acting contrarily.”
Uzuegbu urged residents of Enugu State to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report any suspected criminal activities or individuals behaving in a manner contrary to the peaceful conduct of the protests. He provided contact numbers through which such reports can be made, including 08032003702, 08086671202, 08075390883, or 08098880172.
