JUST IN: Lagos State University admits 12,873 out of over 50,000 applicants

The Lagos State University (LASU) says it has welcomed 12,873 new students from a pool of over 50,000 applicants for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, conveyed this information during the institution’s matriculation ceremony on the main campus in Ojo, Lagos, held on February 28.

Addressing the newly admitted students, Prof. Olatunji-Bello emphasized their privilege in gaining admission to LASU and assured them that the university prioritizes their welfare.

She highlighted ongoing efforts to maintain a conducive and competitive learning environment, promising safety on campus with adequate security measures.

The Vice-Chancellor, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Adenike Boyo, urged students to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

She reiterated the university’s commitment to providing a disciplined and focused atmosphere for learning.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello warned against cultism, examination malpractices, corruption, hooliganism, and other vices, emphasizing that those found guilty would face disciplinary actions.

She encouraged students to attend lectures regularly, complete assignments, and avoid deviant behaviour.

Addressing the issue of Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV), the Vice-Chancellor emphasized LASU’s zero tolerance for such offences.

She highlighted the establishment of the Directorate of Response and Preventive of Sexual and Gender-based Violence, urging students not to remain silent if faced with harassment or assault.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello also reiterated the university’s dedication to grooming globally relevant and competent students.

She emphasized LASU’s student-centered approach, focusing on character development and the hope that graduates would contribute meaningfully to global developmental discourses.
