“Yahaya Bello is not evading arrest” – Kogi commissioner

Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, has dismissed claims that the former governor, Yahaya Bello is not evading arrest.

Recall that operatives of the the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had failed in their attempt to pick Bello up on Wednesday.

The combined team of security personnel were outsmarted by the former governor who was allegedly whisked away in the motorcade of Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State.

But speaking with ChannelsTV on Thursday evening, Fanwo insisted that Ododo did not help Bello escape.

The commissioner said Ododo is committed to upholding the laws of the country, including respecting its legal processes.

“Governor Ododo did not assist in Bello’s departure from his residence; the EFCC’s claims are misinformation aimed at furthering their objectives,” Fanwo said.

”Bello is not evading anyone; the existing court injunction protects his fundamental rights,” he added.

Fanwo rejected EFCC’s claims, describing them as baseless and product of an organized disinformation campaign.

He argued that Bello is not attempting to avoid arrest while referring a state high court injunction that protects Bello from harassment by the anti-graft agency.

Fanwo criticized the anti-graft agency’s allegations even as he questioned the commission’s certainty about Bello’s whereabouts.
