Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, seeking to overturn his conviction by a Lagos State High Court for the sexual assault of a minor.
Baba Ijesha was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022, following his conviction for the sexual assault.
In his appeal, Baba Ijesha, represented by his counsel Kayode Olabiran, argued that he was set up and that his actions were part of a scripted performance he was invited to participate in by his colleague.
“The Appellant was set up. The Appellant is an actor. He acted in a script that he was invited to act by his colleague (PW1), Damilola Adekoya,” Olabiran stated.
However, the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr Babajide Martins, countered the appeal, urging the court to dismiss it for lacking merit and being based on a misconception. He called on the court to uphold the judgment of the lower court.
