Former minister Kenneth Gbagi dies at 62

Nigeria’s former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi has passed on.

Gbagi died on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement released by the eldest son of the late minister, Emuoboh Gbagi, and made available to journalists on Sunday.

The statement reads “It is with profound sadness but gratitude to God, that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, and brother, Olorogun (Barr.) Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, FNIM, OON; Former Minister of Education, who departed this life on the 4th of May 2024 at the age of 62”.

“We take comfort in the fond memories of his life, his achievements, and the impact he made on the lives of countless individuals and communities. We kindly request your thoughts and prayers for our family during this challenging time of loss”, it added.

The late Gbagi was Minister of State for Education under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was an aspirant for the governorship position in Delta State in the 2023 election.

Though he was in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he ended up as the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in that election.

The late Gbagi, hailed from Oginibo community in Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
