Why Peter Obi visited Atiku, PDP leaders – Aide

Dr. Yunusa Tanko, an aide to Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, has disclosed the reason behind his principal’s visit to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Politics Nigeria reports that Obi was at Atiku’s residence on Monday for a private visit which held for about 20 minutes.

In a tweet via his official X (Twitter) handle, Atiku described Obi’s visit as an honour and privilege.

Speaking on the visit, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, said: “The meeting was held behind closed doors. But we haven’t been briefed.”

But in a statement after visit, Obi’s media aide, explained that the visit to Atiku’s residence as well as that of other PDP leaders was born out of his desire for a better Nigeria.

“The state of the nation and the plight of the poor inspired the visits. Mr. Peter Obi has continued to live up to his expressed commitment to the peace and progress of the nation,” Tanko said.

“His abiding devotion is to the emergence of a Nigeria that works for all its peoples and where  the people are quickly pulled out of poverty.”

Obi, a former Anambra State governor, was Atiku’s running mate on the PDP presidential ticket during the 2019 general elections.

However, they lost to former President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
