The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike to protest the absence of governing councils in all federal universities across the country among other pressing issues.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, May 13, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke noted that it has given the Bola Tinubu-led government enough time to set things in motion.
He urged Nigerians to hold the federal government responsible for any decision it takes to protest the action of government.
Politics Nigeria recalls that ASUU called off their eight-month strike on October 14, 2024.
After several meetings to resolve the strike ended inconclusively, the federal government proceeded to the National Industrial Court to challenge the action.
The industrial court, in a ruling delivered on September 21, granted the federal government’s application for an interlocutory injunction to restrain ASUU from continuing with the strike pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Not satisfied with the ruling, ASUU approached the court of appeal seeking leave to challenge the lower court’s decision.
