Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has entered a plea of not guilty to allegations of financial misconduct levelled against him.
Emefiele’s plea came during his arraignment before Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
The charges brought forth by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) include claims that Emefiele approved the printing of N684.5 million at the rate of N18.96 billion.
The anti-graft body also accused the former CBN chief of unlawfully withdrawing N124.8 billion from the Federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
Emefiele, who served during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, had been accused of disobeying the direction of law with the purported intent to cause injury to the public, particularly concerning the implementation of the naira swap policy.
