Mr. Madu Onuorah, the Editor-in-Chief of Globalupfront Newspapers has been forcefully taken into custody by armed policemen at his residence in Lugbe, Abuja.
The incident which happened around 6 pm, witnessed approximately ten fully armed officers storming his home in two Sienna buses.
Reports indicate that Mr Onuorah’s phones were confiscated, severing his communication with the outside world, including his family and legal representation.
Despite protests from his family, the police provided no explanation for the arrest and swiftly transported him to the Lugbe police station, leaving no trace for concerned friends and family to follow.
The Management of Globalupfront Newspapers has issued a strong statement condemning the arrest, demanding Mr Onuorah’s immediate and unconditional release.
They asserted his credentials as a respected journalist with a history of operating within the bounds of the law.
According to them, the egregious violation of Onuorah’s fundamental rights and the assault on freedom of expression in Nigeria.
