JUST IN: CJN summons chief judges over conflicting injunctions on Kano Emirate dispute

In response to the legal turmoil surrounding the Kano Emirate, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the Chief Judge of Kano State High Court.

The summons follows the issuance of conflicting interim injunctions by the two courts, creating uncertainty and tension within the state.

The conflicting rulings have exacerbated the ongoing legal and political tussles over the Kano Emirate, a situation that has prompted the CJN to intervene.

The disputes center on the status and authority within the Kano Emirate, leading to divergent court orders that have further complicated the situation.

In his summons, Justice Ariwoola emphasized the importance of judicial coordination and the need for the judiciary to speak with one voice, particularly in cases of significant public interest.

The meeting with the chief judges is expected to clarify jurisdictional boundaries and prevent future occurrences of conflicting orders.

The situation in Kano has drawn national attention, with stakeholders calling for a resolution after the state government sacked Emir Ado Bayero and reinstated Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II.
