Governors from South West states are currently convening at the Lagos House in Ikeja, Lagos State, for their zonal meeting.
Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu welcomed the governors to the meeting on Monday, accompanied by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
The meeting is attended by Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).
The meeting by the South-West Governors Forum is expected to address issues affecting the zone and Nigeria as a whole.
The South-West Governors Forum is the umbrella body for all the six governors in the geo-political zone.
The closed-door meeting, which started around noon is going on currently at Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Office in Lagos House, Ikeja.
The meeting, being hosted by Governor Sanwo-Olu, is attended by all the six governors from the zone.
The South-West Governors Forum is expected to address various issues affecting the zone and the country at large.
This gathering comes nearly four months after the death and burial of the last chairman of the forum, former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Since Akeredolu’s passing, the leadership of the forum has remained vacant.
Reports suggest that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State is a strong candidate to succeed Akeredolu as the chairman of the forum. Other potential candidates include Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
The selection of a new chairman is likely to be a key item on the agenda during the ongoing meeting.
