Bauchi State University Gadau has been renamed as Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) after an approval by the governing council of the institution.
This development is sequel to the signing of the bill for renaming the university by the state governor, Bala Mohammed as passed by the State House of Assembly.
The resolution was reached on Friday, June 14, by council members during its meeting led by the chairman, Prof Ango Abdullahi.
The pro-chancellor of the university, Prof Ango Abdullahi said the council unanimously adopted the new name in honour of the late Nigerian nationalist and politician, Mallam Sa’adu Zungur.
Ango stressed the importance of honouring the memory of individuals who have played pivotal roles in shaping the history and identity of the nation.
On her part, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof Fatimah Tahir, said that the renaming of Bauchi State University to Sa’adu Zungur University is a symbolic gesture that underscores the values of integrity, leadership and excellence that the university upholds.
Tahir said it serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Zungur and his enduring impact on the educational landscape of Bauchi State.
