Pro-Fubara Rivers Assembly Set to Screen New Commissioner-nominee Today

The Rivers State Assembly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara has invited Emmanuel Frank-Fubara for screening and confirmation as a commissioner-nominee.

This development was made public through an announcement signed by the Clerk of the factional Assembly, Dr. G. M. Gillis-West, on Sunday.

According to the statement, Frank-Fubara is expected to appear before the Assembly with 12 sets of his Curriculum Vitae and the originals and photocopies of his credentials.

This exercise marks the third time the Oko-Jumbo factional Assembly will be screening commissioner-nominees for Governor Fubara’s cabinet.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has been factionalized since last year, following a feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The rift led to an impeachment attempt on Fubara in October, which he survived.

Recently, the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned a Rivers State High Court ruling that restrained pro-Wike lawmakers from performing their legislative duties.

The High Court had earlier ruled that the lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule, had lost their seats due to their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. However, the Court of Appeal reversed this decision, citing lack of jurisdiction.
