Anti-corruption group asks Tinubu to sack DG of Federal Government agency

President Bola Tinubu is reportedly under pressure to sack one of the Director-Generals in a federal government agency.

An anti-corruption advocacy group known as Advocacy for Positive Impact Initiative has called for the immediate dismissal of Dr Yusuf Maina Bukar, Director-General of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW).

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, July 10 in Abuja, the group, known for its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in government, cited serious allegations of corruption, nepotism, incompetence, and breach of public trust against Dr Bukar.

During the press briefing, the press director of the group, Amb. Austine Peacemaker accused Dr Bukar of embezzling funds earmarked for the Great Green Wall Initiative and diverting resources meant for combating desertification and land degradation.

The group also accused Dr. Bukar of engaging in nepotistic practices, by appointing unqualified family members and associates to key positions within NAGGW and by-passing merit-based criteria.

They also stated that Bukar’s leadership at NAGGW has failed to achieve its mandate effectively, despite significant funding. Project delays, inefficiencies, and financial mismanagement have been attributed to his leadership.

”The Director General has demonstrated a lack of competence in performing his duties, resulting in significant delays, inefficiencies, and failures in project implementation.

”This incompetence has led to wastage of public funds and hindered national development efforts while at the same time running the agency as his personal estate,” the group alleged.

Amb. Peacemaker called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately relieve Dr Bukar of his duties.

The group also called on the National Assembly to initiate thorough investigations and public hearings to probe the allegations against Dr. Bukar.

In addition, they urged the Federal Ministry of Environment to intervene decisively to restore transparency and accountability within NAGGW.

The group warned that failure to address the allegations promptly would undermine public trust in the agency and the government’s commitment to fighting corruption.

They also stressed the importance of holding accountable any public official found guilty of misconduct and mismanagement.
