PDP Sweeps Delta LG Election, Wins 25 Chairmanship Seats, Loses 1 Councillorship Seat

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all 25 local government chairmanship seats and 499 out of 500 councillorship seats in the Delta Local Government election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) won the only councillorship seat not claimed by the PDP in Oshimili North Local Government Area (LGA).

Dr. Jerry Agbaike, Chairman of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), announced the results on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Asaba. According to Agbaike, the election was not held in Udu LGA as the PDP chairmanship candidate was returned unopposed.

The DSIEC chairman also presented Certificates of Return to the elected LG chairmen.

Recall that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other PDP leaders in the state had earlier predicted victory for the party’s candidates.

After casting his vote on Saturday, Oborevwori expressed confidence in the party’s victory, describing the election as transparent, free, and fair. He also expressed support for local government autonomy, stating that the Supreme Court judgment on the matter did not affect Delta State.

The governor explained that the state government had not tampered with local government funds and had instead cleared monies owed by local governments in the past.
