Organised Labour Reveals Why it Accepted Tinubu’s N70,000 Minimum Wage

The leaders of organised labour have revealed that they accepted the new minimum wage of N70,000 due to President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to review it every three years.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that on Thursday, President Tinubu approved the new minimum wage of N70,000 during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the State House in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, NLC President Joe Ajaero explained that the offer was accepted due to the president’s promise to review the minimum wage every three years.

Ajaero was flanked by TUC President Festus Usifo and other representatives of Nigerian workers.

The labour unions had earlier declared an indefinite strike in May over the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage from the initial offer of N60,000. Although the strike was suspended after two days, the negotiations continued, with the federal government proposing various figures, including N48,000, N54,000, and N62,000.

  1. Total waste of time , labour just waste workers time on nothing to show , they knows this amount from day 1. Instead of them to come out and tell people about it . Now so the increment will now start by August abi? When wages have stopped since March so all the subsidy removal from March to July where it . All na scam
