A group, Edo People for Good Governance, has berated a former governor of Edo state, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, accusing him of spreading lies against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo ahead of the governorship election in the state.
In a statement sent to journalists on Sunday and signed by its convener, Bright Omorodion, the group accused Oshiomhole of ”continuous lies and misrepresentations” in his comments against the against the PDP candidate.
Oshiomhole had on Saturday, alleged that Ighodalo has never slept in his country home in his village.
The former governor was speaking at an event hosted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to welcome back ousted deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu to the party.
The group described the comments of the former governor as falsehoods, adding that Oshiomhole has been to Ighodalo’s country home severally.
Part of the statement read: ”Oshiomhole has consistently raised irrelevant and baseless issues about Asue Ighodalo, distracting from the real matters of governance and development.
”Initially, he claimed that Asue Ighodalo did not grow up in Edo, then alleged that he could not speak his native language, and now absurdly asserts that he has never slept in his village house.
”These claims are not only false but completely irrelevant to the pressing issues of good governance and development in Edo State.
”Let us set the record straight: Oshiomhole is well acquainted with Asue Ighodalo. When Oshiomhole’s first wife passed away, Ighodalo attended the funeral and stayed in his country home.
”Similarly, when Asue Ighodalo’s father died, Oshiomhole was present and supportive. These personal interactions show that Oshiomhole is deliberately lying about Ighodalo to deceive the public.
”It is disheartening that the APC, under Oshiomhole’s influence, focuses its campaign solely on attacking the character of Asue Ighodalo rather than presenting a clear and viable plan for the future of Edo State.
”The people of Edo deserve a campaign based on substance, policies, and a vision for progress, not baseless character assassinations.”
The group called on the APC and Adams Oshiomhole to cease their petty attacks and instead engage in meaningful discussions about how they intend to improve the lives of the people of Edo.
”It is time for the APC to address the real issues that matter, such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development, rather than resorting to irrelevant and deceitful tactics.
”The future of Edo State depends on honest, transparent, and effective leadership. We urge the people of Edo to see through the lies and deceit and to demand a higher standard of discourse from those who seek to lead,” the group stated.
