Court Orders Removal Of Kano Anti-graft Chairman Rimingado Reinstated by Governor Yusuf

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has directed the immediate removal of Barrister Muhuyi Rimingado as Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) for allegedly disregarding court orders.

Justice Simon Amobeda gave the order before delivering judgment on a fundamental rights suit filed by Mustafa and Muhammad Garo against Rimingado and five others.

The court also recommended Rimingado to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for investigation over his disregard for court orders.

Rimingado had been suspended by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in April 2024 over multiple charges of graft, but he continued to occupy his position, prompting the court’s directive.

The court fined Rimingado and five other respondents N10 million for damaging the applicants’ reputation and ordered a perpetual injunction restraining the anti-corruption agency and police from arresting or harassing the applicants.

The applicants had been accused of siphoning public funds using their private companies, but the court’s judgment has brought relief to them.

Recall that in 2023, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reinstated Rimingado as Chairman of PCACC, to complete his tenure.

He was suspended from office by the previous administration of Abdullahi Ganduje in questionable circumstances.
